I am not sure its the same bug, but using Ubuntu 8.10 suddenly synaptic
stopped working. If you click on the icon it requires sudoers password,
and then nothing happens.  If you try to run it from terminal it starts
if you run it without administrative privileges. but sudo synaptic pails
with this message:

sudo synaptic
[sudo] password for csevcik: 
Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 keyUnable to init server: Could not connect: 
Connection refused

(synaptic:4058): Gtk-WARNING **: 09:57:26.552: cannot open display: :0


Re installing synaptic does not help solving the problem.
