Public bug reported: Alpine 2.21 has a performance regression with respect to 2.20. The "folder list" screen, which used to appear instantaneously, can repeatedly take 5 to 10s to appear if one has a lot (a hundred or so) of IMAP folders, and the option quell-empty-directories is set. As this screen needs to be entered every time one changes folder, it is very annoying.
After correspondence with Eduardo Chappa, alpine's current upstream maintainer, he produced the attached one-line patch which fixes the issue. (See also https://repo.or.cz/alpine.git/commit/35f3426203172af028df5a6e39bc6dea2514020d .) Given that the patch looks simple, and the benefits are considerable, I'd like to suggest updating the 18.04LTS package. (18.04LTS is affected, 16.04LTS has alpine 2.20 so is not.) ** Affects: alpine (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Patch added: "alpine.diff" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1816551/+attachment/5239820/+files/alpine.diff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1816551 Title: alpine performance regression with IMAP To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alpine/+bug/1816551/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
