Public bug reported: # Steps to reproduce
* boot up an installation disk for Ubuntu 18.04 server 64 bit * fill in all the fields. Nothing special * get to the final part where you just have to wait for the installer to run * select "view full log" # Expected result * the log disappears and the user is presented with a blank page with an obvious message saying that installation is complete; or * the last line of the log should say "installation complete"; or * an obvious interface element should say "installation complete" # Actual Result See the attached printscreens. * If you have selected "view full log", the last log message is "Reading package lists..." (top half of the attachment) This is extremely misleading. The "..." makes it seem like the task is still underway and that another line will be printed when it's done. * If you quit the full log and go back to simple log (bottom half of attachment) the last log entry is "cleaning up apt configuration". This makes the user think that work is still underway * the message "installation complete" appears in tiny font up the top. Since new log entries appear at the bottom, I expect an "installation complete" message to appear at the bottom, or be far more obvious. The white font on bright background makes this message hard to notice. # Impact I have run this installation 3 times this week. Each time I have sat in front of my screen twiddling my thumbs for a *very* long time, wondering why it's taking so long. ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "printscreens" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1816516/+attachment/5239747/+files/install-complete-both.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1816516 Title: misleading message suggests installation still underway when complete To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1816516/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
