The linux-backports-modules got me sound on my fresh install of Gutsy on a Dell Latitude D630, but sound mixing is all fouled up. When I got to mess with volume levels (whether the buttons on the laptop or the volume control panel), the volume will start out at the level I set it for, then it will slowly get louder and louder until it is maxed out. It's almost like one of these hardware volume buttons is stuck, but it's not. It's very strange because there is a delay before it decides it's time to start cranking the volume up (and it's very slow and gradual). I have tried this with a couple different audio programs and the results are the same. You don't see the audio slider bars or controls going up, you just hear the volume getting louder and louder until it maxes out.
