I don't think is a 3D cube plugin's fault for these reasons: 1. In a fresh installation (start from zero: all disk formatted) of 7.10 (Gusty) the 3D cube isn't enabled by default. I had freezes with just finished installation on three different pcs: 2 desktops with ATI Radeon X300 and 1 laptop with ATI Radeon Mobility X300; none of the three had 3D cube plugin enabled.
2. I reinstalled one of my pc (one desktop with ATI Radeon X300) following tccom's procedure (basically an upgrade of Feisty after having enabled desktop effects); using this method you obtain a Gutsy with desktop effects _and_ 3D cube plugin. Till now (2 days) I didn't experience freezes. 2b: I tried the tccom's installation method on a Thinkpad T43 (ATI Radeon Mobility X300) and, unluckily, I am continuing to get freezes. I have to add one little bit of new information: * during freezes I managed to unfreeze the keyboard (as proposed by Piotr) with Alt-SysRq-r * with the unfrozen keyboard I could switch to one console (with Ctrl-Alt-F1). Important: I didn't see the console as the screen remain frozen, but I could (blindly) login in the console and reboot to the system (not too much but better than a reset ;). There were no way I could kill Xorg and unfreeze the screen. -- X freezes when compiz is enabled on ATI cards https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/108527 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
