Same problem here with the address book lookup applet. For both the dictionary lookup and the address book applet with (System->Preferences->Appearance) Visual Effects = normal: - open gedit (or any other app that accepts text input) - hover over the text input box (mouse pointer changes to 'text input pointer') - click the input box - type some text
