You're saying Ubuntu but you're using the XFCE desktop? Are you actually
using Xubuntu? In any case, we'd need to have some understanding on how
you have things set up so we can figure out what's controlling power
management.
Perhaps attach your $HOME/.xscreensaver as a start, too.
