Public bug reported:

xfdesktop4 memory usage increases continuously while repeatedly
reconnecting HDMI cable (RSS and VSZ memory usage as reported by both ps
and top). This may not happen with a DisplayPort cable.

This issue has been reported to XFCE bug tracker:
