Public bug reported:

Upon upgrade to 18-10, no sound came from the speakers.
There was no change in packages, just upgrading.

After searching, it seemed that pulseaudio didn't load the "Analog Output" card.
Reason seems to be that timidity is running before pulseaudio wants to grab the
card and can't because timidity has it grabbed.
Although I guess that the culprit package is timidity-daemon, one of whose
files is /etc/init.d/timidity and runs the timidity server that grabs the card,
the timidity-daemon package was uninstalled in the upgraded system. I can't
tell for sure if in the previous version the package was already removed or the
package was automatically removed in the process of upgrading.

Nevertheless, I just "apt purged timidity-daemon", rebooted, and got the
sound back.
