I also hit this issue. Daniel T Chen: the comment says some *machines* need it. It is possible that this means devices, but I think it means that some users will use the digital output.
To me it makes sense to disable this by default, as someone who uses digital output may be more likely to realise that is the issue, and also that enabling this option is probably far more obvious to someone using digital output. I realise this will probably annoy some digital output users.
