the "getting started with GNOME" "introduction to GNOME" and "start
applications" sections of the desktop guide refer to how those things
are done in vanilla GNOME and not the Ubuntu customized session. the
instructions work, but they don't accurately demonstrate how the Ubuntu
session looks or how most people would use it.
