i think you are right, after the post i tried out the sound while the key indictors were working on my r31 for the volume they had no affect on changing the volume. (when I wrote the post, did not test sound) execpt for mute, so it was the same thing, however on my setup, it removed ubuntu desktop and hotkey-setup, so the screen brightness and thinklight have indictors that actually work, just the volume is still broken.
