I also was using the "CONCURRENCY=shell" in /etc/init.d/rc script. By disabling it I have got back in my tray the battery icon, the KNetworkManager online icon and the kpowersave icon. And i also have got the "auto mount" feature in KDE for newly inserted media. In my opinion the CONCURRENCY flag management in /etc/init.d/rc is either to be fixed or to be disabled until a fix is committed.
