@BigPick: Thanks a lot for taking the time to investigate the mater so closely. If you can reproduce the problem reliably I would love to get in touch with you directly so that we can debug it together. If you can reproduce it, could you please tell me what version of kdelibs and kdebase you have installed when the bug happens? Anyone who can reproduce the issue (maybe inside a virtual machine) and wants to help testing, I would appreciate if you could test the attached patch and see if that makes things better.
