Another issue with the ~/snap folder I run into now is that it also contains cache data that should go to ~/.cache. For instance I have spotify cache folder of over 2GB in ~/snap/spotify/common/.cache that can't be easily excluded in backup scripts. The separate ~/.cache folder is invented to address this.
