I have the *exact* same problem with my LG S1 laptop. Probably an Alsa issue, as I am not running ubuntu, but arch linux. All modules load fine, and I get sound fine except none from the built in speakers.
This is the 1st time I see this issue talked about anywhere and its about time cause I thought I was the only one with the problem !
