I wrote a small note in the wrong bug about this. I'll repeat it here:

"Quite a painful bug indeed. Because this behaviour is something that
can generally expected from a browser (and also works fine in every
other browser I tried in Ubuntu). It gives Firefox a bad mark in Ubuntu.
I know that bugs shouldn't be filled with notes such as these, but I
feel this could hurt Firefox unfairly when compared to the other
browsers Ubuntu offers, because for users it may not be clear from first
sight it's a really a mistake and not actually intended."

I'm wondering why the Firefox package has been mutilated in this way but the
other browsers in Ubuntu are left intact. It seems the reasons for this change
(there were problems with this functionality in Firefox?) should be looked at
first.
