Can you post the output from nslcd in debug mode? The easiest way to do this is run in a separate window:
% sudo -s # service nslcd stop # nslcd -d It is important to run sudo -s first because if you stop the nslcd service the LDAP users will not be able to authenticate until you start nslcd again.
