That's the problem. The first commit you showed is a fix in 2.6.18 that was a regression from 2.6.17 (2.6.17 already worked like this).
The second commit for ext2 is already in our 2.6.17 tree, pulled in from 2.6.17.y. Not to mention that there are probably hundreds of "fixes from 2.6.17" that aren't marked as "2.6.17 fixes". So it's pointless to use the ChangeLog in this manner. If you see anything that we need, please point it out. I have way too much else to do, besides reading through this ChangeLog.
