I'm not sure what you mean by "can I install grub on boot drive?"; I
have never seen such a prompt.  What I see is after choosing to
partition manually ( "something else" ), on the partitioning screen you
can choose where to install grub to.  One of the automatic choices
however, just installs it to /dev/sda without asking, and that is
intentional.
