I fixed my WUSB54G issue by downloading and installing the latest rt2500 
"legacy" driver from serialmonkey.com:
http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com/wiki/index.php/Downloads

I do agree, but the rt2500usb module works pretty well in both fedora
7-8 and suse 10.3, please have a look at
