I can confirm with the released Gutsy. Clicking on the Workspace Switcher makes everything but the wallpaper disappear. No desktop icons, no panel, no right-click desktop menu.
Running 'killall -HUP gnome-panel' from an ssh session recovers display of the panel, and from there the original workspace and window set can be recovered. After that, switching by clicking on the applet generally works, but it's glitchy, and windows often move around or are hidden after a switch. ctrl+alt+arrowkey doesn't work at all for me under gtk-window-decorator. The Workspace Switcher applet also only shows windows for the current desktop. This is x86_64 with the nvidia proprietary driver, displaying on two heads under TwinView.
