ok. Now Im on my 16.10 system again. 1. this is the comand I use for 70% it also works for numbers higher than 1 down to 0
xrandr --output eDP-1 --brightness 0.7 for this current system Linux X1-16 4.13.0-43-generic #48~16.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Thu May 17 12:56:46 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux I have not used it prior to 16.10 but I think it worked.
