Public bug reported: Hello,
I'm Iain Russell, maintainer of Metview. A user has reported that there are problems with the version of Metview available for Ubuntu 18.04, including the fact that the plotting does not work (this can be verified by starting Metview and going into the Getting Started folder and right- click/visualise the T_an+Tfc48 GRIB file). But I think the main problem is that this is advertised as Metview 5.0.0-beta-1, but when you run it you can see that it is actually version 4.9.1 (Help/About). This version is not compatible with version 3 of the Magics plotting library, which is installed with it. Metview 5.0.1 is available and should be used in preference to the beta version. https://software.ecmwf.int/wiki/display/METV/Releases Please don't hesitate to get in touch with me if there are problems getting Metview 5 into Ubuntu. We plan to release version 5.1.0 towards the end of May.
