Boot repair failed for me with "grub-efi-amd04signed" package failed to install Partitioning from a Live CD to create an EFI system partition failed as there were already four partitions on the drive (dual boot with W7). Trying grub-install ..... error: failed to get canonical path of `/cow' Tried installing 14.04 over the top of a partial 18.04. Great - it works. Bad news - it overwrote the whole disk, now no W7 and cross SWMBO :-( After that, 18.04 overwrote 14.04 happily and other problems started.
