Thanks for your report!

"Software & Updates" is an item in the "Ubuntu Software" menu; please
see the attached screenshot. The problem with the instruction is that it
does not mention that.

Thanks also for your offer to help with the edit! While I'll likely
handle this particular issue, we do look for people who help maintain
the desktop guide. I mentioned it briefly in this message to the ubuntu-
doc mailing list:
