Public bug reported: Binary package hint: eclipse
Eclipse out of box, supports certain target operating environments: http://www.eclipse.org/eclipse/development/eclipse_project_plan_3_3.html#TargetOperatingEnvironments Most Linux distros like Ubuntu bundle GCJ by default. GCJ isn't a supported environment for Eclipse and is been known to cause quite a few issues (like random crashes and certain functionality not working). I humbly request that the Ubuntu team consider warning their users about this issue, or making it so that the Eclipse distribution within Ubuntu requires OpenJDK7 or some other flavor of JDK that is supported by Eclipse. Here's a bug over at Eclipse for reference. https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=191254 We are doing our users a disservice on both ends by not informing them of problems. Users either think that Eclipse sucks because it randomly crashes or that Ubuntu sucks by providing a badly packaged Eclipse. ** Affects: eclipse (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: eclipse -- Warn Eclipse users if they aren't running a supported platform https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/158457 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
