19 hours ago I still had this problem with crash too when closing lid..... Well for me it is gone. I changed my xorg.conf to driver "intel" and installed the latest driver I found on another bugdiscussion. http://www2.eng.cam.ac.uk/~pcjc2/ubuntu/xserver-xorg-video-intel_2.1.1-0ubuntu10~pcjc2.2_i386.deb
I'm just an ubuntu user and not a hacker/programmer orso. Appearently after my upgrade from feisty to gutsy my xorg.conf wasn't changed to the intel driver, but anyhow I directly had very buggy X behavior. Then because when somebody asked me to look at xorg.conf there was i810 in my config...changed it to intel.... I've tried like 20 times closing the lid and it works fine now, before 50% off the lidclosings went into full crash. So toshiba R15-S829 with 82852/855GM runs great again including suspend and hibernation.
