I tried to switch off all fancy graphics (apperance-visual effects-none) and keeping the same drivers. Worked good. Then I tried to switch on all fancy graphics (apperance-visual effects-extra) and keeping the same drivers. Had the same problem. The only way to get out of it is to alt-tab to ogle control window and close it. This way I get back my original background.
