Adding 'acpi_osi=' to /etc/default/grub solves it all for me, on an old Dell laptop, an old Compaq nx7400 and a quite new HP G2. This seem to fool the bios to think its a Windows OS.
Doing a 'sudo update-initramfs -u' and ' sudo update-grub' and a reboot makes it complete. This back-light issue obviously happened back in 2008 .. old bug ;-) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1662316 Title: Asus GL553VE laptop keyboard backlight uncontrollable and Fn keys not working To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1662316/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
