Now I got the external monitor working: I replaced the i810 by the intel driver (the daily updates during Gutsy development did not do this automatically) by doing
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-intel which automatically uninstalled the oid xserver-xorg- video-i810-modesetting package. Then I hand-edited xorg.conf replacing "i810" by "intel" (you can alternatively do "sudo dpkg-reconfigure --priority=low xserver-xorg"). Then I have connected an external monitor (I had no 1024x768 projector but only a 1680x1050 PC monitor) and restarted X. Now X started in 1680x1050 with correct display on the external monitor and only the upper left corner of the desktop, without possibility to scroll. For the projector it is sufficient, as the projector has the same resolution as the internal screen (1024x768). There are still the following problems: - displayconfig-gtk does not work at all for me. I need to do awkward things like hand-editing xorg.conf or running "sudo dpkg-reconfigure --priority=low xserver-xorg" to get the desired X configuration - Update did not switch to the new intel driver - The default configuration of the new intel driver does not work if the laptop screen and the projector have different resolutions, then one display device has an unusable partial display of the desktop. I attach my current working (for laptop display and projector with the same resolution) xorg.conf for the intel driver. ** Attachment added: "This xorg.conf should work if the projector has the same resolution as the laptop screen" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/10177164/intel-working-conf-1024x768-xorg.conf -- Cannot configure projector connected to laptop with Intel i915 (driver "i810") using displayconfig-gtk https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/151647 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
