I was experiencing this problem in a clean and standard install of Gusty (nvidia-glx-new driver and Normal Visual Effects). I agree with others who said this is a critical bug. On one hand, the hardware is very common (in fact, I have the impression that nVidia is generally the "recommended" graphics board for Linux/Unix users), on the other hand, the software environment is the default install of Gutsy.
My motherboard is a Asus M2NPV-VM with an onboard nVidia GeForce 6150. The memory usage of compiz.real would rise in an uncontrolled fashion making the system unusable after a while (a few hours). Following evilspy tip I increased the Frame Buffer Size from 32 MB do 128 MB in the BIOS and I no longer experience any problem whatsoever. compiz.real memory usage remains under 30 MB (it would previous go over 700 MB). I hope that while we wait for a fix from nVidia this workaround can be effective for more people (probably only those with integrated graphics cards)... -- Memory leak in nvidia-glx-new's GL_EXT_texture_from_pixmap https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/151168 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
