Public bug reported:

The sound recorder freezes during the start of a recording. The gnome
sound settings utility also halted, because the volume bar halted. The
gnome sound settings utility could be closed normally, while the gnome-
sound-recorder had to be killed.

I tried to record sound from the host OS Ubuntu 17.10 in the Guest OS
Ubuntu 18.04.
