Dan, Brilliant. Just brilliant. I never thought of checking the bios. This computer never has had a floppy but the CMOS setup showed one. I changed the CMOS from Floppy A to None, and now Gparted works perfectly -- instantly. What's weird is that it worked fine on 7.04 with the CMOS showing a floppy. Problem solved. Thanks Don
