My system crashes just before displaying the login screen 9 times out of 10 with the nvidia-glx driver installed.
Oddly enough, the nvidia "supported products" list for the 9631 driver, which is older than the one in the repos (9639) does not list the GeForce2 MX as supported. http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display_ia32_1.0-9631.html Your link was for the XP driver.
