Public bug reported: Description: Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS (Kubuntu) Release: 16.04
Installed recent updates with Synaptic. Kernel load failed. Next reboot with default Linux kernel resulted in blank screen instead of login screen. Rebooted to Linux kernel 4.10 and booted fine to login screen and successful login, hence this report. Downloaded upstream kernel 4.15rc7, and same problem reported during install. Reboot to 4.15 led to blank screen instead of login screen. Rebooted to Linux kernel 4.10, successful login and removal of upstream kernal 4.15. Error during install did refer to nvidia build make log. Also, noted there are patches at the following location: /usr/src/nvidia-340-340.102/patches/ Patches exist up to working kernal 4.10, but not 4.13 or 4.15. Is this a nvidia issue, or a kernel issue?
