Is this issue still occurring on Gutsy-final for anyone?

For those able to reproduce this problem on Feisty, could you follow the
steps on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingXorg to try getting some gdb
information about what Xorg is doing at the time of the 100% usage?
Perhaps Xorg is stuck in a loop, which could be made evident by stepping
through the code for a bit and see how it's looping. Sending the Xorg
process a `sudo kill -5` might also be of interest.

Also, Eric says he is seeing this only when he has Firefox open - can
anyone confirm having this issue when Firefox was *not* running?

On bug 104481, it said the issue was particularly noticeable for
websites like http://derstandard.at/ and http://www.blogger.com, which
use javascript to do dynamic image stuff. Can anyone else who is seeing
this 100% cpu issue confirm this?
