After upgrading kUbuntu to 16.04 my kmail stopped working. I lost a lot of time with googling and reinstalling, until I found that this bug still existed and was the cause that akonadi could not create a mysql.socket. I agree with Roger Porta Batalla that this bug should be investigated and solved.
