This does not look like the problem I addressed with my patch, as it is
unllkely your CD drive is not MMC-2, and the problem would have showed
up in Feisty.  Not sure the wiki is quite appropriate, but certainly
check HAL output: as well as using HALD in debug mode you can use the
HAL device manager (System->Preferences->Hardware Information): if it
sees a CD it will show as a "child" of the CD drive named "Unknown
Device", but from your description perhaps even this is not happening.
Can GUTSY see your CD drive at all?
