I confirm that the problem still exists in Gutsy Gibbon. The old (stable) gqview uses probably old libraries, and the new gqview is not yet stable.
Workaround: Get the newest development version from http://gqview.sourceforge.net/ I used: gqview-2.1.5-1.i386.rpm Convert it with alien from a *.rpm to a *.deb file.
