I just ran into this problem when finally moving from a VGA KVM to
StarTech Displayport dual KVM. I switch between my win10 work laptop and
my Ubuntu Mate 17.10 desktop with GeForce GTX 1060. I can start up
Ubuntu and display is as expected, then switch to the laptop and all ok
there too.

When I switch back to Ubuntu the display is highly distorted. I switch
to command line and restart, but the display will not come back
initially, I'll have to hard power the machine and start it again, then
my display returns. This only happens when using Displayport KVM. When I
tried switching back to the VGA KVM all normal again.
