Public bug reported: I installed lubuntu 17.10 on an old asus eee. It worked nice until xscreensaver started because then the 'pinguin' frooze with black screen. Then, hard switch off and reboot produced kernel panic. Swithching off and restarting again made kernel panic again. But, I found out that the system became accessible again if I booted from my usb-stick with lubuntu 17.10, however. Having done that I could boot from hd again.
I don't have the kernel panic log, but I noticed that root had no access to :0.0. I had also noticed that testing the xscreenserver was not possible and entailed an error message: Xscreensaver daemon is not running on display “:0.0” https://askubuntu.com/questions/844456/xscreensaver-daemon-is-not- running-on-display-0-0 This page made me able to solve the problem. Settings > lx session configuration > core applications After having written xsreensaver in the screensaverfield, the problems disappeared. Screensaver works nicely, and there is no kernel panic after reboot. I seems to me that this is a severe bug as the system the system crashes if there is not written xscreensaver under core application. Whether the consequtive kernel panic is specific to my installation I don't know. But if it is common, I think it is really severe. If anyone is interested in more data on this, please tell me what to do. I am convinced that I can reproduce the bug. ** Affects: lxsession (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: kernel lubuntu panic screensaver -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1735721 Title: screensaver freeze and kernel panic in lubuntu 17.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxsession/+bug/1735721/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
