My login problem is resolved. I have four items in desktop environment selector: Ubuntu Ubunto on Xorg Ubunto on Xorg (visually the same item appears two times) Unity The default was one of Ubuntu on Xorgs. I switched to Unity and it works! Thank you so much.
Regarding sysstat, I did the following: sudo apt update "Reading state information... Done 3 packages can be upgraded. Run 'apt list --upgradable' to see them." apt list --upgradable "Listing...
