Last Sunday I had the same problem as reported by David, and I could fix it by running the command bellow:
$ sudo dpkg -i --force-overwrite /var/cache/apt/archives/broffice.org_1%3a2.3.0-1ubuntu5_all.deb I am not an expert, sorry, so I am not sure about what else this command can imply on the rest of the system, but since then I am working and using Ubuntu Gusty and the BrOffice package without problems.
