Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nvidia-glx-new
I experienced random desktop freeze. After hours and hours of searching I Nvidia GLX driver to 100.14.06 and no more freeze at all. Seems MANY people are concerned in many linux distribution when 100.14.19 Nvidia driver is use. I have an Nvidia 7300GS 256Mo video card on an GeForce MCP61 chipset. Here is a clean and quick downgrade how to: - Using Gutsy freshly installed. - Download and install Envy (http://albertomilone.com/nvidia_scripts1.html) - Download version 100.14.06 of nvidia driver (http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/100.14.06/NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-100.14.06-pkg2.run) - Stop GDM and launch NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-100.14.06-pkg2.run, follow instructions and let it modify your xorg.conf file. - Remove Envy and dependencies: sudo apt-get remove envy && apt-get autoremove Enjoy desktop effects with no freezes. ** Affects: linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Random desktop freeze with nvidia-glx-new 100.14.19 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/156470 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
