As far as I can tell this package is not being maintained in Debian and
is pending deletion for this reason: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=870936. A fork was mentioned in that bug. Is the
fork packaged?

This specific bug may be the same as https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=633803.

To get this bug fixed properly, the best way would be to seek proper
maintenance in Debian in the first instance. Then Ubuntu will be able to
sync any fixes.

Until someone takes responsibility for this package, I don't think it's
likely that bugs in it will get fixed.
