Travis, that's my exactly my point. With the nvidia driver, I was seeing the same behavior as described here. While running top, I could see the resident memory used by compiz.real rising steadily. Then I removed the nvidia driver. Of course compiz.real was no longer one of the running processes, but the increase in memory usage overall followed the same pattern as before, there was just no particular process to attribute it to. So, I either have at least two separate massive memory leaks, or neither the nvidia driver nor compiz are responsible for it.
