I don't see crash notifications either. They worked in the LiveCD, but not after real install.
I also see crash reports in /var/crash. Running /usr/share/apport /apport-gtk let me sent the report for the first crash, but it did not clear it from /var/crash. Rerunning /usr/share/apport/apport-gtk does nothing. This is on a 32-bit installation.
