I am experiencing the same issue in my Centos 6.6 machine, with Gdal 1.11.1
When I try : ogr2ogr -f "ESRI" abc.shp temp_vec.gml The error I get is: ERROR 1: Unable to create Xerces C++ or Expat based GML reader, Xerces or Expat support not configured into GDAL/OGR. ERROR 1: File temp_vec.gml appears to be GML but the GML reader can't be instantiated, likely because Xerces or Expat support wasn't configured in.
