Thanks Andreas for explaining. I do see we have a guide for sssd to AD (https://help.ubuntu.com/dev/serverguide/sssd-ad.html) but the docs currently do point to libnss-ldap - I'll look at updating the docs to SSSD before proceeding with this bug.
